Bicyclist Injured at Redlands and Citrus

The unidentified young man was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

A bicyclist was injured Monday evening when he struck a vehicle in traffic at Redlands Boulevard and Citrus Avenue in Redlands, a police sergeant said at the scene.

The accident occurred right around sundown shortly before 6 p.m. Nov. 26.

The unidentified young man was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Several of the bicyclist's friends, also on bicycles, remained at the scene to speak with police investigating the accident.

The busy intersection is home to several businesses, including Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, a gas station-convenience store, and Redlands Fire Station 261.

I hope he makes a quick recovery, but they are all wearing black, with no helmets or lights. They might want to rethink that plan.

No brakes, either. Were they all cited for riding illegally on city streets without brakes and lights, or did RPD overlook that? I know those things they ride are technically "bicycles", but I would prefer that the headline somehow distinguished these guys from actual bicyclists who take riding and safety at least semi-seriously. Maybe something like "Bro Injured in Sick-Ass Collision"... I really do hope the kid recovers and can eventually learn to enjoy the type of cycling that doesn't scratch so much automotive paint.

I just moved out here to San Bernardino County from Los Angeles County. There are some cities in LA County and Orange County that ticket bicyclists without a light in the front and a red blinker in the back at night or are under 18 without a helmet. Bicyclists must obey all traffic laws, stay off the sidewalks, and flow WITH TRAFFIC, NOT AGAINST IT. They were probably breaking several traffic laws.

Any details yet. I would like to use this is bike safety classes that we do in the area. These are personal examples that local kids can learn from. THanks
