Booking Photo Released of Man Arrested During Search in Redlands

Donte Dominic Cannon, 24, wanted in connection with a robbery-kidnap attempt in Banning, was arrested Tuesday morning at a residence on Courier Avenue, according to Banning police and inmate records.

A booking photo was released Wednesday of a man arrested in Redlands on suspicion of felony kidnapping and felony attempted robbery in Banning.

Donte Dominic Cannon, 24, was arrested Tuesday morning at a residence on Courier Avenue in Redlands, according to Banning police and inmate records.

He was released from Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on $50,000 bail later Tuesday, according to inmate records.

Detectives tracked Cannon, a suspect in a robbery-kidnap attempt in Banning in May, to the home in Redlands, according to Banning police.

"The search warrant was the result of an investigation on an attempted armed robbery and kidnapping that occurred in Banning on May 27th, 2012," police said.

"The victim in this case related that a black male arrived at his residence and forced him, at gun point, to drive to an ATM machine and withdraw money," police said. "Prior to the victim being able to withdraw money from his account, the suspect fled the scene."

Banning police investigators and emergency tactical unit officers served a search warrant about 7 a.m. Tuesday at 521 Courier Ave. #B, Banning police said in a statement.

The home is one block south of Lugonia Avenue between Orange and Church streets in Redlands.

Banning police use a converted armored bank truck on search warrant services, Banning police Sgt. Alex Diaz said.

"Instead of kicking doors in, we'll make announcements," Diaz said Tuesday. "We got here, we made the announcement . . . no answer. Eventually his girlfriend came out and then he came out . . . without incident."

A gun and other unspecified evidence were located and collected during the search, police said.

Cannon has a court date scheduled Aug. 7 in Banning.
