A booking photo has been released of a Redlands man accused of arson in connection with a residential fire on Mulvihill Avenue on Sunday.
Mazhar H. Mahmood, 60, was held Monday evening at Central Detention Center on one count of arson of an inhabited structure, according to inmate records. His bail was listed at $250,000.
was reported before 3 p.m. Sept. 9 in the 400 block of Mulvihill between Orange and Church streets, Redlands fire officials said.
Firefighters responded and "found the fire had already been extinguished by a resident of the home," a Redlands Fire Department statement said.
"While checking the area and doing mop-up, firefighters noticed evidence of several additional fires in and around the structure," the statement said.
A Redlands Fire Department investigator interviewed another resident, identified as Mahmood, and determined he had started the fires, the statement said.
Mahmood was arrested and transported to Redlands Community Hospital for medical evaluation before being booked, according to the Fire Department.
Asked Monday whether Mahmood stated any motive for his alleged actions, a Redlands Fire commander said the investigation was ongoing and declined to discuss details which could affect the case.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Damage to the structure and property were estimated at about $3,000.
Anyone with more information was urged to contact the Redlands Fire Investigation Unit at (909) 798-7600.
