The incident took place around 2 a.m. Monday morning in a field near the Loma Linda and San Bernardino border.
A seven-year-old boy was burned in Loma Linda Monday morning due to fireworks.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a field on East Wier Road around 2 a.m. after several area residents reported hearing fireworks. Officials say that two 18-year-old San Bernardino residents - Nicholas Ibarra and Jaliyl Vazquez - had met up at 1:30 a.m. to shoot off fireworks. At one point, the pair were shooting Roman candles at one another.
It was at that point the boy was hit, officials said.

Vazquez told Sheriff’s deputies that he had brought the boy to watch the fireworks go off. The child has a burn on his left arm, and both Vazquez and Ibarra were arrested on suspicion of child cruelty. Authorities say that Ibarra was found with a bag containing five alprazolam pills, and will face an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. He remains in custody as of Monday afternoon.
