BREAKING NEWS: 4.5 Quake Shakes the Southland

The temblor was felt throughout several counties.

A temblor initially measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale shook Southern California early Wednesday, jangling nerves and waking a few from their slumber.

The quake was centered 3 miles north of Fontana. It struck at 1:35 a.m. and was measured at 3.2 miles in depth.

People in Redondo Beach, Anaheim, Redlands, Aliso Viejo, Upland, Claremont and beyond reported feeling the quake, which comes just hours from the anniversary of the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

UPDATE: The quake had been downgraded to a 4.4 as of 2 a.m.

SECOND UPDATE (2:18 a.m.): According the USGS maps, there have been five aftershocks to the original temblor, all centered in the same vicinity, ranging from a 1.0 to 2.3 in magnitude.

The quakes are centered above Highway 210 in the area surrounding Sierra Lakes Golf Club in northern Fontana.
