CHP: Man Killed When Vehicle Drifts Off Road, Into Ditch in Mentone

CHP officials say the Fontana man suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash on Monday afternoon.

A man died Monday afternoon in Mentone when he crashed his truck for unknown reasons, California Highway Patrol officials report.

According to a press release from CHP Officer Leon Lopez, the unidentified Fontana man was driving south along Crafton Avenue, near Third Avenue, when he crashed around 3:30 p.m.

"For reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed his vehicle to veer to the right and off the roadway where it rolled downward into a ditch," Lopez said.

When the Chevy pick-up truck hit the ditch, the 57-year-old driver was "partially ejected," and at the same time, the vehicle flipped onto its side, pinning the man, according to Lopez.

"The driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency personnel," he said.
