Crews From Redlands, Loma Linda, Colton Descend on Three-Alarm Fire

Firefighters were working a fire that broke out around midnight at a condo complex in Colton, a block from a fire station.

About 50 people are spending their Easter Sunday displaced from their homes after a fire broke out late Saturday in Colton.

Several fire crews, including units from Redlands, Loma Linda and Grand Terrace, responded to the three-alarm blaze that broke out in Colton at 11:58 p.m.

The fire broke out in one unit at the Eagle Ridge apartment complex at 1350 S. Meadow Lane in Colton. The complex is coincidentally a block away from a Colton Fire station.

A hole had to be cut into the roof of one of the homes, officials said.

Three units were badly damaged, fire officials at the scene said. Sixteen units were displaced due to smoke and water damage were getting help from the Red Cross, according to officials.

When the blaze first broke out, smoke from the blaze billowed through the surrounding neighborhood and onto Washington Street out toward Loma Linda, which is only five minutes away.

Crews were cleaning up and investigating the cause of the blaze well into the morning.
