Molestation Suspect Could Face Three Life Terms

A Redlands man will be arraigned Thursday on five charges, including kidnapping and forcible lewd acts upon a child under 10.

The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges Wednesday against Terence Giberson, 52, of Redlands, in connection with the suspected molestation of a 4-year-old girl that took place in a Redlands apartment complex on August 9, 2011.

Giberson was charged with five counts in total – two counts of Oral Copulation/Sexual Penetration with a Child Under 10, two counts of Forcible Lewd Act Upon a Child, and one count of Kidnapping to Commit Another Crime.

If convicted on all charges, Giberson faces a possible three life terms in state prison. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at 8 a.m. via video court in San Bernardino. He was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon, but a power outage in San Bernardino forced the delay, according to district attorney officials.

“Our children are our most vulnerable victims, and what happened in the local community of Redlands on Tuesday will not be tolerated,” said District Attorney Mike Ramos in a news release. “It has always been the policy of this office that we will hold those responsible for any criminal conduct accountable for their actions, and this case is no different.”

Giberson was arrested Monday evening after officials said he and a missing 4-year-old girl were found naked in his apartment.

About 7:30 p.m. Monday, the girl's father went looking for her in front of her apartment in the 900 block of Pine Avenue where she had been playing, said Carl Baker, spokesman with the Redlands Police Department. Unable to find the girl, the father searched the complex. He found the child nude, calling for him through Giberson's apartment window, Baker said.

When the father entered to apartment to get his daughter, police officials said the man also found Giberson naked. The father took his daughter home and called police.

Giberson locked himself in his home and refused surrender to police. About 30 minutes after police arrived, he voluntarily left his home, and had several superficial, self-inflicted cuts, Baker said.
