DORNER REWARD: 'Due to High Volume of Calls' LAPD Issues Statement

The reward money was announced Feb. 10 by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, in conjunction with other agencies and private donors.

Los Angeles Police Department officials issued a statement Monday morning on the $1 million reward offered during the manhunt for multimurder suspect and ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner, "due to the high volume of calls" about the reward money and its distribution.

A Boy Scout camp manager, who was carjacked by Dorner south of Big Bear and made a call to authorities that helped trigger events ending with Dorner's death, told Redlands-Loma Linda Patch on Saturday he expects a share of the reward.

The reward money was announced Feb. 10 by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, in conjunction with other agencies and private donors.

"Now that the search for Christopher Dorner has concluded, we are addressing the distribution of the $1 million reward," the LAPD statement said. "More than 20 jurisdictions and entities are involved in this reward, so all of them will be coming together to collectively determine whether any individual(s) qualify for it. Our personal hope is that the reward will be distributed, but we must follow the rules and respect the procedures of each entity.

"Due to the large number of inquiries into the reward, the Mayor's Office and the Los Angeles Police Department remind media outlets that reward monies cannot be distributed until the investigation is complete, which takes time.

"Final decisions on the dissemination of the reward on this case, as in all reward cases, will be made upon the completion of the investigation. Your patience is appreciated."

Authorities believe Dorner, who was fired by the Los Angeles Police Department in 2009, is accountable for four killings in the space of ten days: Monica Quan, a former LAPD captain's daughter, and her fiancé, Keith Lawrence, in Irvine on Feb. 3, Riverside police Officer Michael Crain on Feb. 7, and San Bernardino County sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay on Feb. 12.

Crain was a Redlands High School graduate, a student at Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa, and a Beaumont resident. MacKay worked in the Big Bear area and Yucaipa, and he was a resident of Redlands. Both men leave behind wives and young children.

Why don't all who think they have a claim on this money decline from all claims in favor of having the money go to the family's of his victims. Especially to those of the police officers that lost their lives. Both are leaving young children behind who could use that help.
Rex February 18, 2013 at 05:08 pm
HAHAHAHA!! They'll never give out a dime.
Katie D February 18, 2013 at 05:18 pm
The police officers families are going to be well taken care of from life insurances and pensions. The money needs to go to the 2 housekeepers who probably make minimum wage and the man who was car jacked.
B.K. Holthaus February 18, 2013 at 05:33 pm
It has been pointed out in the media, in newspapers and by legal analysts that because the wording in the reward statement indicated that the "capture" of Dorner was a prerequisite to claiming any reward money that technically the reward money doesn't have to be given to anyone. They never actually captured him or had him in custody. Why am I not surprised?
Leo P Flood February 18, 2013 at 05:43 pm
Since the police intentionally burned down the cabin that Mr. Dorner was in rebuild it with a portion of the money. Some of the money should also go to the man that was car jacked then remainder go to the families of the fallen police since the police did not see fit for them to have affordable insurance. Remember, the funds were collected for information that led to the CAPTURE and CONVICTION of the subject. Was he captured and convicted in a court of law? They will find an excuse not to pay the money because they KILLED Mr. Dorner.
OMG February 18, 2013 at 05:52 pm
Mr. Mayor, honor your word and fullfill your promised for the reward. We do not want a second Dorner to happen again!!!

I whole heatedly agree...the rewardmoneyshould go to the immediate families of the officers killed! A "reward" for sacrificing their lives in the line of duty to protectable of us....no price canbe Putin a human life, but at least the children, and wives of these officers will have the financial stability that the husbands, and fathers would've provided their family had they not been killed.

The police lied they ain't gonna give any money away we all should of knowned that cone on now. I knew they were going to find some way out of it "high frequency calls"
Lance Sanchez February 18, 2013 at 07:13 pm
Idiots! It's always about the money! Give it up! People are selfish and ignorant. Nobody deserves the money.
pam topper February 18, 2013 at 09:23 pm
The money will never be paid out because he had to be captured and convicted.

Awesome- new cabins and cars for everyone! Just give me the bill? Millions for the Torrance ladies shot by INCOMPETENT, POORLY TRAINED LAPD officers? Millions in LAPD overtime to protect Charlie Beck's mustache? Oh, and everyone involved gets to spike their pension and make $100K a year. Taxpayers should pay for all this incompetence? No thanks.
Instead, I'd like to see a competent police department as we saw with Irvine PD, those white cops that shoot at Asian women fired, and that LYING coward San Berdoo chief resign. BTW, those STUPID cops that were saying "burn him like we planned" will probably make Dornan's mother a millionaire when she files the wrongful death suit. Everyone is cool with these Keystone Cops?
joebanana February 19, 2013 at 06:19 am
Exactly Michael, we all knew it would end this way. They had no intention of Dorner ever seeing a court room made evident by the shooting spree of paranoid little sissy girl cops on random civilians, with the intent to inflict death. If this is how these goons are trained to react to situations, they're a danger to the public. Did you see that blue truck? They meant to kill whoever was in it. (and they failed at that too)

The condo will be covered under fire insurance as you cannot hold a loan on a home in the Mtns unless you insure it for fire. They were tied up which makes them victims of violent crime there are funds set aside to help victims of violent crimes. I am amazed at the number of people here that don't (or won't) understand when you offer a reward (of that magnitude) there is essentially a contract written up that states the criteria to help decide who gets the reward. I am amazed at the number of people on this comment section that can't understand that the LAPD (or any other PD) office has the power to decide who gets that reward, they didn't offer it! Most rewards are not given out, because criteria is usually not met. But in all reality where is that million coming from the TAXPAYERS. Those of you with limited understanding how a city commerce works should move over the Beaumont Audit blogs and learn who spends your tax money. If you want to be angry about the reward not being given out at least call out the right people who are denying (LA city attorney and city council) We need to go back to old school internet....only the intelligent could figure out how to sign on
Washy February 19, 2013 at 10:32 am
In simpler words they cannot (yes cannot there is only one choice not a decision) give the reward because the law says they cannot
Scott A McMillan February 19, 2013 at 10:57 am
Money to the families of dead cops? Not the intended purpose. Another example of cops perverting the law for personal benefit.
ikedaddy February 19, 2013 at 04:26 pm
So much curruption in the police force decieving you with money then not even giving it to you because he was killed not convicted . Its these kinds of reasons that makes people like dorner act the way they do. Had it be a gang member and you sniched on them , you wouldn't have gotten the money and might of had a hitlist on you for snitching. No Money and possible murdered and would the police care? NO!
Debra Pflieger February 19, 2013 at 04:32 pm
I sooooo agree!
Ellen Carr February 19, 2013 at 08:21 pm
If the money isn't given out...I wonder if we'll ever know what happened to it!!! This whole money thing smells fishy to me.
tiffeney moody February 26, 2013 at 02:20 pm
i agree , does anyone know how to start a petition or something to suggest that the LA police department give some of the reward money to the families of the two officers killed ?

If you want to know what "sustainablity" is really about, come hear Rosa Koire at RedlandsRead More Townhall on May 23, 6:30 pm at the American Legion Hall, 814 W. Colton Avenue. "Sustainability" is UN Agenda 21.
Gregory Brittain May 21, 2013 at 10:03 am
“Sustainability” = UN Agenda 21 = less liberty and less prosperity. One of the bestRead More sources is self-described “liberal democrat,” “feminist,” “lesbian” Rosa Koire and her book “Behind the Green Mask: U.N. Usually I'd start with how teachers should be paid in line with their students grades, but for nowRead More I'll just suggest going to the .99 cent stores. You can get everything from 100 packs of #2 pencils to college ruled notebooks and binders, to pens and highlighters. We go there weekly and send boxes of school supplies, crayons and coloring books to our troops in Afghanistan to help them befriend the locals. The biggest score is cans of party string that usually go for $5. They spray it into a room and the streamers will hang on any tripwires without setting off the bomb. And try asking the store manager if corporate might be willing to throw in 2 for the price of one or a bakers dozen on highly stocked items if you can get several other teaches to also shop there. It never hurts to ask.

I have shopped at Staples for years and have yet gotten a so-called reward. Why the change of heartRead More now? The school supplies are overpriced anyway. I get things really inexpensively at Walmart right before school starts. There is no limit as to how many things one can buy like there is at Staples.
