DUI Arrests Up Slightly From Last Year

Law-enforcement officials arrest more than 170 people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Avoid the 25 DUI Task Force made more arrests over this year’s holiday weekend than they did last year, officials said.

From 12:01 a.m. Friday through midnight Monday, San Bernardino County police agencies arrested 176 people suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs compared to 140 in 2010.

In Loma Linda and Grand Terrace the Sheriff’s Department conducted a DUI Saturation Patrol from 6 p.m. July 4 to 2 a.m., July 5. During the enforcement 34 vehicles were stopped, two drivers were arrest in connection with arrest warrants, one driver was arrested for being under the influence of drugs, 13 drivers were issued citations and 3 vehicles were impounded, Loma Linda Police officials said.

The task force conducted three sobriety checkpoints and 68 special DUI saturation patrols, where officers on routine patrol focused on targeting impaired drivers, officials said.

The task force works to lower deaths/injuries on our streets and highways, officials said. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
