DUI Checkpoint Scheduled in Redlands 7p to Midnight Friday June 14

Redlands police are planning a DUI/drivers license checkpoint this Friday, a city spokesman said Wednesday in an announcement.

The checkpoint is scheduled in the southbound lanes of Alabama Street south of Park Avenue, from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday June 14, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

"Officers will contact drivers passing through Friday’s checkpoint looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment," Baker said. "Officers will also check drivers for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. When possible, specially trained officers will be available to evaluate those suspected of drug-impaired driving."

Drivers arrested on suspicion of driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000, Baker said.

The checkpoint will be funded by a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, through the federal Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
