Fire Spreads to 150 Acres Near San Timoteo Canyon in Redlands Area

Update 7:53 a.m.: 

A fire that broke out Tuesday night south of Redlands is now contained-- though an estimated 150 acres were charred, fire officials reported Wednesday morning.

The Redlands incident was first reported at 5:48 p.m. Tuesday, in the San Timoteo Canyon area, according to Riverside County Fire Department Spokesman Mark Annas.

Crews fought the fire overnight, and achieved 100 percent containment at 6 a.m., according to Annas.

All roads have been reopened in the area, he reported.

The fire's cause is under investigation.

Tuesday Update 10:45 p.m.: 

The Riverside County Fire Department reports the fire burning south of Redlands has spread to an estimated 100 acres.

Update 8:20 p.m.:

A fire burning northwest of Beaumont continues to grow Tuesday night, though fire crews say they've achieved some containment.

The Redlands incident, located in the area of Redlands Boulevard and San Timoteo Canyon Road, is now estimated at 50 acres-- with less than 10 percent containment, according to Riverside County Fire Department Spokesman Mark Annas.

According to Annas, San Timoteo Canyon Road-- which turns into Oak Valley Parkway in Beaumont-- is closed to non-residents from Redlands Boulevard to Fisherman's Retreat.

There are now nearly 150 firefighters assigned to the blaze.

Update 7:57 p.m.: 


The Riverside County Fire Department reports a fire south of Redlands has spread to an estimated 20 acres in size, and the CHP is closing roads in the area.

The so-called "Redlands" incident, located in the area of Redlands Boulevard and San Timoteo Canyon Road, is now being fought by nearly 100 firefighters, along with one helicopter and two air tankers, according to Spokesman Mark Annas.

The California Highway Patrol has requested the closure of Oak Valley Parkway at Palmer in Beaumont-- and logs indicate it will be closed through the night.

On the other side of the fire, the sheriff's department is closing southbound Redlands Boulevard at San Timoteo, according to the CHP.

Original story posted July 16, 2013 at 07:03 p.m.: 

The Riverside County Fire Department has responded to a brush fire burning just south of Redlands, in the San Timoteo Canyon area.

The fire is located near Redlands Boulevard and San Timoteo Canyon Road, and was reported at 5:48 p.m., according to Spokesman Mark Annas.

"First arriving units reported approximately 10 to 12 acres," Annas reported.

So far, more than 50 firefighters from six engine companies from that fire department have been sent to the blaze, along two air tankers, according to fire reports.  Annas tells Patch that Redlands Fire is also assisting with the efforts.
