Fleeing Suspect Shoots Self After Pursuit

San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies chased a man wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery in San Bernardino.

A San Bernardino man wanted in connection with a home invasion robbery killed himself early Thursday after San Bernardino Sheriff's Deputies chased him on local highways.

About 12:30 a.m. Thursday, an off-duty deputy from the Sheriff's Highland office spotted the suspect and notified an on-duty watch commander of the suspect's location, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. Ronald Christopher Peters, 21, of San Bernardino, was wanted in connection with the robbery in San Bernardino, and was considered armed and dangerous.

Officers responded and located the suspect vehicle in the area of University Avenue and Interstate 215. Peters fled the scene by entering northbound I-215. Deputies from the Highland and Central stations followed as the suspect exited the highway in Devore, where he dropped off a female passenger before continuing to flee.

California Highway Patrol and Sheriff's Aviation officers joined the pursuit as it continued to northbound to Interstate 15, before moving westbound on Highway 138.

CHP officers deployed a spike strip on Highway 138, which allowed officers to conduct a PIT manuever to stop Peters' vehicle.

As officers approached the car, Peters shot himself. Medical aid was called, but Peters died at 1:23 a.m.
