Floodlight Ignites Ornamental Vegetation Fire, Damages Fence in Redlands

A floodlight ignited a fire in ornamental vegetation Thursday night in
Redlands and the blaze damaged a fence, a Redlands Fire battalion chief said.

The fire was reported about 9:15 p.m. Aug. 15 in a backyard near Puesta del Sol and East Sunset Drive South, in the hills of east Redlands.

"The fire involved ornamental vegetation which threatened multiple structures in the area and damaged a fence," Battalion Chief David Graves said in an email.

"It took about 15 minutes to knock down the fire and firefighters remained on scene for another hour to thoroughly extinguish the area," Graves said.

Heat from a floodlight ignited the vegetation, Graves said. No structures were damaged and there were no injuries reported.

Damage to the fence and vegetation were estimated at $2,500.
