Date for next hearing is set for Nov. 1 in preparation for a possible Nov. 3 preliminary hearing.

Former San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy Nathan Gastineau made a brief appearance in court this morning as attorneys continue to prepare for his preliminary hearing.

Prosecutor Bobbi Mann turned over more interviews to Gastineau’s attorney, Andrew Haynal, who asked for time to review them, according to the San Bernardino Sun.

Judge John N. Martin has scheduled the next court date for Nov. 1 with a possible preliminary hearing on Nov. 3.

Nathan Gastineau, 30, of Redlands, was a 10-year sheriff's department veteran and was head of the Highland Sheriff’s explorer program. He was arrested April 22 after investigators received a tip about his alleged sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female explorer cadet, sheriff’s officials said.

The sheriff's department notified the Crimes Against Children Detail, which investigated the allegation.

A second man, Jason Anguiano, 27, of Rialto, was also accused of having sex with the same girl. He agreed to plead guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse and was sentenced to serve 180 in jail and three years probation. He will be given credit for time served, officials said.

He will also be required to complete a sexual offenders treatment program and submit to HIV/AIDS testing, officials said.

Authorities said Anguiano met the girl he met through movie fan club co-founded by Gastineau.
