Girls' and Women's Self-Defense Safety Seminar Offered by Redlands Police

The workshop designed for ages 13 and up is scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27 at Redlands Community Center Gymnasium.

The Redlands Police Department plans to offer a self-defense and safety seminar for girls and women next month, a city spokesman announced Thursday.

The four-hour seminar is for ages 13 and up, it costs $10 per person, and is scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27 at Redlands Community Center Gymnasium.

Space for the seminar is limited to the first 50 people registered, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said. To register for either program call (909) 798-7572 or email personalsafety@redlandspolice.org.

"The seminar is designed for women and girls from ages 13 and up and will include a personal safety presentation as well as hands-on training," Baker said. "The purpose is to raise the level of awareness among women and minimize their risk of victimization."

The seminar is taught by members of the Redlands Police Department, Baker said.

"Participants should bring a light lunch and water and wear loose clothing and comfortable tennis shoes," Baker said.

Seminar fees help support the Street Smart self-defense program for children and teens, which is also taught by Redlands police officers, Baker said.

Street Smart is designed for ages 6 and up. Classes are held at 3:45 p.m. on Fridays at the Redlands Community Center. For more info about Street Smart visit www.Facebook.com/streetsmartselfdefense1.

Redlands Community Center is located at 111 W. Lugonia Ave.
