Man Accused of Murder/Torture Faces Judge While Wife Recovers in Loma Linda

Ian Roderiquez faces a murder, attempt murder and several other criminal counts while his wife recovers at Loma Linda University Medical Center.

A man who authorities say killed his teen-aged son and tortured his wife and four youngest children pleaded not guilty today in a San Bernardino Court Room.

Ian Anthony Roderiquez, 35, of San Bernardino, faced Judge Ken Barr on Friday morning to face a murder chrge. He has also been charged with one count of attempted murder, four counts of torture and four counts of child abuse.

He pleaded not guilty to all charges, said Susan Mickey, spokeswoman with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office.

His next court hearing has been scheduled for March 30 at the San Bernardino Superior Court, according to court records.

Roderiquez was arrested on March 24 by Sheriff’s officials after they found his wife, 35-year-old Sujal Roderiquez, and their children: 13-year-old Jacob Roderiquez, 12-year-old Gabriel Roderiquez, 10-year-old Daniella Roderiquez, 8-year-old Yasmine Roderiquez beaten and bloodied inside the family home in the 6600 block of Merito Avenue, according to Sheriffs officials reports.

Deputies found 16-year-old Richard Roderiquez dead, investigators said. The boy had suffered several injuries.

Deputies were summoned to the neighborhood at 9:15 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing someone screaming for help. Sheriff’s deputies traced the screams to a home and were met by Ian Roderiquez, sheriff’s officials said.

He was questioned and eventually Roderiquez arrested.

As of Friday, Sujal Roderiquez remained hospitalized at Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition, though she was improving, officials said. Jacob, Gabriel, Daniella and Yasmine were also hospitalized but were expected to recover. Children and Family Services was ready take custody of the youngsters, officials said.

The Press Enterprise in Riverside reported two of the couple's daughters were released from the hospital.
