Man Accused of Crashing Stolen Vehicle into House with Deputies in Pursuit

A man was locked up Wednesday and accused of reckless driving, evading a peace officer, and possessing a stolen vehicle that he allegedly crashed into the corner of a house in Highland, according to the Sheriff's Department and inmate records.

The chase began a little after 11 a.m. Tuesday July 9 when Highland deputies located a stolen vehicle in the area of Church and Webster, sheriff's personnel said in a statement. The vehicle was reported stolen earlier Tuesday from a residence in Highland.

"When deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect,  the suspect fled  leading deputies on a pursuit," sheriff's personnel said. "The pursuit ended in the unincorporated area of San Bernardino when the suspect lost control of the vehicle  colliding into a street and stop sign coming to rest after he crashed into the corner of a residence in the 24000 block of 5th Street."

The suspect, identified as Fernando Luis Coronel, 34, of San Bernardino, was taken into custody, deputies said. Nobody in the home was injured. Damage to the home was described as minor.

Deputies learned Coronel was on supervised probation for a prior conviction of evading a peace officer, as a result of California Assembly Bill 109.

He remained locked up Wednesday at West Valley Detention Center, where his bail was listed at $100,000, according to inmate records.
