Man Accused of Grabbing, Trying to Rape Woman Near Park in Redlands

Brian Mishak, 22, was arrested at 2:58 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 4 by Redlands police at Wabash and Independence, according to inmate records.

A man was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of trying to rape a 28-year-old woman near Crafton Park in northeast Redlands.

The woman was walking in the 1700 block of North Wabash Avenue about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 4 when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her and started to pull off her clothes, Redlands police spokesman Carl Baker said.

"The woman fought the man off and ran into a nearby Tender Care child care business where employees called police," Baker said.

Workers at Tender Care also alerted employees at nearby Crafton Elementary School and provided a suspect description, Baker said. Redlands Unified School District security personnel saw the man walking in front of Crafton Elementary and detained him until police arrived.

Mishak was booked on suspicion of attempted rape at Central Detention Center, where he was held Wednesday afternoon on $125,000 bail. He had a court appearance scheduled Thursday in San Bernardino.
