Man Accused of Sex Crimes Against Children

A 28-year-old man has been charged by prosecutors with eight sex-related felonies he allegedly committed with two children, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Samuel Joseph Kardos was already behind bars in Rancho Cucamonga on unrelated charges in June, when deputies responded to a report of sex offenses he allegedly committed in Big Bear Lake, sheriff's personnel said in a statement.

During investigation, detectives in Big Bear determined Kardos allegedly molested two girls on multiple occasions over a period of several months in 2012, sheriff's personnel said.

Kardos, who was expecting to be released July 7, was contacted at West Valley Detention Center and booked on charges of unlawful sex and lewd or lascivious acts with minors under the age of 10, sheriff's personnel said.

"A criminal report was prepared and forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for filing of felony charges," sheriff's personnel said.

On Wednesday July 10, the District Attorney's Office filed a criminal complaint against Kardos, charging him with six counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child and two counts of sex or sodomy with a child under 10 years old.

Kardos, a resident of Big Bear Lake, remained in custody early Thursday in Rancho Cucamonga and his bail was listed at $2 million. His arraignment was scheduled later July 11 in San Bernardino County Superior Court.

According to inmate records, Kardos was first locked up in November 2012 on suspicion of offenses including false imprisonment, resisting arrest and filing a false police report.
