Man Sought in Attempted Child Abduction

A girl walking to Clement Middle School in Redlands says she was followed by a man who tried to lure her away last week.

CLARIFICATION: An earlier version of this story included information that implied the man tried to lure the girl into his car. The suspect was not in a car at the time.

Redlands Police are asking for the public's help in locating a man who allegedly followed an 11-year-old girl on her way to school last Thursday.

The girl was walking in the area of Alta Street and San Bernardino Avenue on her way to Clement Middle School, according to a news release. The girl reported that the man motioned to her several times for her to come to him.

She ran to the campus where she reported the incident to school administrators.

The man is described as in his 40s to 50s, wearing a grey, hooded sweatshirt with a torn shoulder, brown pants, dirty white shoes with a tan backpack.

School officials sent home a notification that day to parents about the incident, and are reminding parents to go over safety rules with their children. Officials recommend that students walk in pairs, take the most direct route to and from school and alerting adults to any suspicious activities.
