Man Struck and Killed Trying to Cross Redlands Blvd Away From Crosswalk

The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Saturday July 21, in the eastbound lanes of Redlands Boulevard east of California Street, a city spokesman said.

A homeless man was struck by a vehicle and fatally injured Saturday night when he tried to walk across Redlands Boulevard near California Street, a city spokesman said Monday.

The man was trying to cross "away from a marked crosswalk," Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said in a statement.

Baker said the man was 52 years old but did not release his name.

The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Saturday July 21, in the eastbound lanes of Redlands Boulevard east of California Street, Baker said.

"The Redlands Fire Department performed advanced life support on the victim at the scene," Baker said. "He was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead."

The 36-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured, Baker said. Police do not believe the driver was impaired by drugs or alcohol.
