Man Suspected of Multiple Holdup Robberies from Redlands to Chino Now in Custody

A man suspected of pulling multiple holdup robberies from Redlands to Chino in the past six months was arrested Monday June 17 by Redlands police, a city spokesman said Thursday.

Joshua Cortez Halsey, 26, of San Bernardino, was held Thursday at Central Detention Center on bail totaling $1.25 million according to inmate records updated June 20.

On Wednesday, the District Attorney's Office filed eight counts of robbery, seven counts of kidnapping to commit robbery and two counts of attempted robbery against Halsey, according to Redlands spokesman Carl Baker.

Events that led to Halsey's arrest in Redlands included police officers' response to a reported armed robbery at USA Gas, in the 900 block of Orange Street, about a block north of Interstate 10, shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, Baker said in a statement.

"The robber entered the business with a black handgun," Baker said. "He fled with cash from the register, as well as cash and a cell phone from employees."

Police found the robbery suspect, identified as Halsey, minutes later in the 1100 block of Alta Street near a 2007 Ford Mustang with its engine running, Baker said.

"A search of the car turned up cash and the cell phone from the Redlands robbery and a separate robbery less than an hour earlier at a Shell gas station in Yucaipa as well as additional stolen cell phones," Baker said.

Police also found a BB gun they believe was used in the robberies, Baker said.

"Investigators have linked Halsey to three robberies in Redlands, one in Yucaipa, three in San Bernardino and one in Chino," Baker said. "Police in Colton, Highland, Hemet, Cabazon, Riverside and Pomona are also reviewing recent robberies to determine if Halsey may be responsible."
