A Moreno Valley man was ejected and killed in a rollover crash Monday morning on Redlands Boulevard in San Timoteo Canyon, according to the California Highway Patrol, Cal Fire, and the Riverside County coroner.
The crash was reported at 8:45 a.m. Monday July 30 north of Locust Avenue in Moreno Valley and "right over the crest as it begins to downgrade" into San Timoteo Canyon, CHP Officer Steve Carapia said in a phone interview.
Westley Hunter, 53, was driving a 1992 GMC Suburban north on Redlands Boulevard, north of Locust Avenue at an undetermined rate of speed when he lost control, struck the curb and went onto the dirt shoulder, according to the CHP and the coroner.
"Out of control, the vehicle traveled onto the right dirt shoulder and overturned, coming to rest on its right side," Carapia said in a statement. "The solo unrestrained driver was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Drugs or alcohol were not suspected to have been a factor in this collision."
Two engine crews responded, Cal Fire spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
A CHP investigation of the crash was continuing.
