Murder Suspect Accused of Beating a Woman and Several Children

Police arrest 35-year-old San Bernardino man after finding a dead teen, a badly injured woman and several injured children.

Sheriff’s deputies responding to a report of a man screaming for help found a dead teen, a critically injured woman and a group of severely injured children at a San Bernardino home on Wednesday.

The deputies were called at 9:15 a.m. to the 6600 block of Merito Avenue. They traced the screams to a home and were met by Ian Roderiquez, sheriff’s officials said.

After questioning him, investigators arrested Roderiquez on suspicion of murder, attempt murder and torture.

Inside the home, deputies found 16-year-old Richard Roderiquez dead, investigators said. The body had severe injuries. Deputies also found 13-year-old Jacob Roderiquez, 12-year-old Gabriel Roderiquez, 10-year-old Daniella Roderiquez, 8-year-old Yasmine Roderiquez and 35-year-old Sujal Roderiquez, all badly injured.

Sujal Roderiquez was hospitalized in critical condition as of Wednesday, officials said. Jacob, Gabriel, Daniella and Yasmine were also hospitalized but were expected to recover. Children and Family Services will take custody of the youngsters when they are released from the hospital, officials said.

Officials released few details, but the Press Enterprise in Riverside has reported that Ian and Sujal were married and the youngsters are their children. Neighbors told the paper he often behaved erratically.

Ian Roderiquez was booked at West Valley Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear at the San Bernardino County Superior Court at 8 a.m. in Department 21.
