Name of Highland Man Killed in I-210 Crash Released

The name of a Highland man who died in a crash early Wednesday on the 210 freeway east of the 215 interchange was released, and the crash remained under investigation, according to the San Bernardino County coroner.

Shortly after midnight, around 12:15 a.m. May 15, Jared Michael Bennett, 26, of Highland, was driving a 1993 Honda Civic east on the 210 "at a high rate of speed" when the car left the road and struck the back of a big rig parked on the south shoulder, coroner's personnel said in a statement.

The California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino city firefighters responded and Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene, coroner's personnel said.

The driver of the big rig, identified as a 46-year-old Coalinga man, suffered minor injuries according to the CHP. Investigators urged anyone who witnessed the crash to call the CHP San Bernardino office at (909) 383-4247.
