UPDATE: Redlands PD Increase Patrols at Krikorian in Wake of Colo. Massacre

Earlier Friday, a California-based spokesman for the National Association of Theatre Owners said its members 'are working closely with local law enforcement agencies and reviewing security procedures.'

Update 7:47 p.m. Redlands Police plan a heightened presence around Krikorian Redlands Cinema 14 Friday night in the wake of the shooting massacre inside a Colorado theater early July 20.

"RPD will be doing increased patrols around the theater tonight," Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said in an email Friday evening.

Posted 6:27 p.m. A California-based spokesman for the National Association of Theatre Owners issued a statement Friday addressing the shooting deaths of a dozen people at a showing of the new Batman movie in suburban Denver.

A gunman entered through the emergency exit of the venue in Aurora, Colo., and shot 70 people, killing 12 of them, at a midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises," the Denver Post reported.

The alleged shooter was identified as , a neuroscience graduate student who attended UC Riverside on a merit scholarship.

Patrick Corcoran, director of Media & Research and California operations chief for the National Association of Theatre Owners, issued the following statement Friday afternoon:

"On behalf of all the members and staff of the National Association of Theatre Owners, our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of this despicable act and their families. We are grateful for the quick and effective response by police and emergency personnel. Guest safety is, and will continue to be a priority for theater owners. NATO members are working closely with local law enforcement agencies and reviewing security procedures."

"The Dark Knight Rises" also premiered early Friday at , where hundreds attended showings scheduled at 12:01 a.m. July 20. There were 21 more screenings scheduled at the Krikorian later Friday.

The National Association of Theatre Owners is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with a second office in North Hollywood, according to the association's website.

The association bills itself as the largest exhibition trade organization in the world, representing more than 30,000 movie screens in all 50 states, and additional cinemas in 50 countries worldwide. Membership includes the largest cinema chains in the world and hundreds of independent theatre owners.
