One Arrested on Suspicion of DUI During Checkpoint in Redlands

One person was arrested Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI/drivers license checkpoint in Redlands, a city spokesman said Monday.

"A total of 498 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in the northbound lanes of Orange Street north of Pennsylvania Avenue between 7 p.m. and midnight Friday" Aug. 2, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said in a statement.

In addition to the DUI arrest, two drivers were cited for driving without a license and two others were cited for driving with suspended or revoked licenses, Baker said.

Later this week, Redlands police are planning a distracted driver enforcement operation on Thursday Aug. 8, and a DUI saturation patrol on Saturday Aug. 10, Baker said.

"Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000," Baker said.

Funding for some checkpoints and other traffic enforcement operations is provided to the Redlands Police Department by the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
