Calimesa Man Killed in Redlands Bar Shooting

A fight turned deadly outside of Charlie Jewell's about 1:30 a.m.

One man is a dead and two others injured after gunfire broke out near a bar in downtown Redlands.

And police are still looking for still looking for the killer.

The shooting happened outside of Charlie Jewells, at 1 E. State St., according to a news release from the Redlands Police Department. Wintesses told police several men got into a fight about 1:30 a.m. inside the bar.

Bar staff removed the men. Moments later, a gunman opened fire, shooting three other men involved in the fight.

Kruze Levusi Kuaea, 22, of Calimesa, died at 2 a.m. Another 22-year-old man was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center for surgery. His condition was still unknown. The third man, 23, was hurt, but expected to survive, said Carl Baker public information officer for Redlands Police.

Residents have worried for some time that an incident like this could happen, said Redlands native Chuck Franklin.

“It just seems that all the other bars are taking measures to keep the riff-raff out but this bar, as long as it’s making money, it’s fine,” Franklin said.

Witnesses described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, 5-foot-7 and about 150 pounds.
