Pedestrian Struck and Killed, Driver Flees, CHP Seeks Info

A pedestrian was struck and fatally injured Saturday night in Fontana, the driver did not stop, and the California Highway Patrol was seeking help from the public, coroner's personnel reported.

The deceased was identified as Maria Chagolla-Barriga, 46, of Fontana.

According to a coroner's statement, she was walking in the area of Slover Avenue and Mulberry Avenue in Fontana when she was struck by an unknown vehicle around 10:10 p.m. Aug. 24.

"The driver of the vehicle fled the scene," coroner's personnel said. "Chagolla-Barriga was transported to the Emergency Room at Kaiser Foundation Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 10:44 pm."
