Plane Crashes at Redlands Airport

One man is injured in this morning's crash at the Redlands Municipal Airport.

A pilot was injured Monday morning when his propeller aircraft veered out of control and crashed outside Redlands Municipal Airport.

The pilot was identified as 45-year-old Paul Sowell, of Redlands. The incident was reported at 8:50 a.m., according to Carl Baker, spokesman with the Redlands Police Department.

It was not immediately known if the pilot was taking off or coming in for a landing, police officials said. It clipped a parked car as it descended. The aircraft crashed into an area between the airport and Hangar 24 Brewery on Sessums Drive.

The pilot suffered lacerations and was complaining of back pain. He was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

“He was pulled to safety by employees at the brewery,” Baker said.
