Police Activity Near Lugonia Elementary, Suspect Not Found

Police responded to a call about a possible man with a gun Tuesday in the area of 6th and Brockton, about four blocks south of Lugonia Elementary, and police briefly chased a subject but no one was taken into custody, a city spokesman said Wednesday June 5.

"Officers were searching in the area of 6th and Brockton, several blocks away from the school, after an anonymous call of a possible man with a gun at about 11:30 a.m." on June 4, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said in an email Wednesday morning.

"Officers were unable to locate that subject but an officer on that call saw another subject run from a back yard in the area of 6th and Western," Baker said. "It was unrelated to the initial call. Officers chased that subject but were unable to locate him."

A San Bernardino County sheriff's helicopter crew assisted Redlands police with the search, Baker said.

Lugonia Elementary may have been placed on lockdown, but it was not at the request of Redlands police, Baker said.

The incident raised curiosity in the neighborhood and among some parents of students at the school. A representative for Redlands Unified School District was not immediately available to comment for this report.
