Police Ask for Help Finding Suspected Debit Card Thief

Investigators are searching for Melanie Suzanne Gonzales who they suspect used a stolen debit card to make at least five different purchases in the area. She may be tied to a bigger theft ring.

A woman suspected going on a shopping spree with a stolen debit card is being sought by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in finding Melanie Suzanne Gonzales, 32, possibly from Mira Loma, whom deputies said made several purchases in the area.

The first purchase was made May 12 at the Food 4 Less on Pepper Avenue in Colton. The woman returned to that store an hour later to make yet another purchase, officials said.

The next day, the card was used at a couple of locations, including a Target in Fontana, officials said. The store’s surveillance reportedly captured Gonzales as she left the store.

Investigators received information about the woman in the surveillance footage today, but learned she no longer lives at her last known address, officials said.

Investigators believe this could be connected to a larger operation.
