Police, Familes of Redlands Murder Victims, Plea for Help

The gunman, who wounded two teens and fatally shot two others, is still on the loose and police are asking for the public's assistance to find him.

The mothers of two teens targeted during the Jan. 5 shooting of four teens at a Redlands apartment complex made public pleas for the gunman to turn himself in.

“Think about your own mother,” Shanita Williams-McCaleb told a crowd of reporters Wednesday morning. She is the mother of shooting victim Quinn McCaleb. “Think about your family. Think about how they would feel.”

Redlands Police organized the media event to ask for the public’s help in finding the gunman who fired on five boys at an apartment complex playground in Redlands. One escaped without injury, two were wounded and 17-year-old Quinn McCaleb and 16-year-old Andrew Jackson were killed.

The investigation has stalled, police officials said. On Wednesday, a new sketch of the gunman was released.

“We know there are people in this community who know what happened,” Redlands Police Chief Mark Garcia. “We’re asking you to come forward.”

The shooting happened just before 7 p.m. in a playground between two apartment buildings on Oxford Drive north of Colton Avenue, police said.

Residents reported the gunfire soon after it started, officials said.

McCaleb, who was found at the corner of Post Street and Sun Avenue, died at the scene. Jackson died at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Two other teens also shot during the incident are still recovering, according to some family members.
