Police Search for Motive in Violent Attack

A Las Vegas man stands accused of beating a man so severely, the victim was rushed to Loma Linda University Medical Center for reconstructive surgery.

A bizarre attack at a gas station left one man severely injured and has law-enforcement scratching their heads as to the motive.

Ryan Gordon, 26, of Las Vegas, was arrested on Nov. 2 in connection with an Oct. 2 assault that sent an unnamed victim to Loma Linda University Medical Center with facial injuries.

The attack happened in Newberry Springs near Barstow. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials said the victim, identified only as a male, was at Chevron service station at 44230 National Trails Highway when Gordon reportedly confronted him.

Fearing for his safety, the victim attempted to run but was chased down and violently attacked, sheriff’s officials said. The victim suffered a broken jaw and needed reconstructive surgery to close his jaw in order to allow it to heal, officials said.

Officials said there appears to be no motive for the attack. The victim did not know his assailant. But with a description from the victim, police were able to track down Gordon to his Las Vegas home.

After interviewing several witnesses at gas station, detectives submitted a report to the District Attorney's Office for review and consideration of filing conspiracy and/or aiding and abetting charges on those individuals, officials said.

Detectives from the Barstow Sheriff's Station, the High Desert Crime Impact Team, and the US Marshalls arrested Ryan Gordon at his Las Vegas home. Gordon is currently being held in Clark County jail on the $500,000 warrant and is awaiting extradition back to San Bernardino County, officials said.

Investigators ask anyone with information on what led the attack call Detective Darin Lansdown or Sergeant Rod Medley of the Barstow Sheriff's Station at (760) 256-4838.
