Police Use Ankle Bracelet to Catch Thief

A man, who police say broke into cars in a Loma Linda neighborhood last week, was located with the use of GPS software.

A 29-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police were able to use his electronic monitoring ankle bracelet to confirm he was at the scene of a vehicle break-in in Loma Linda.

On March 2, police were called to a Loma Linda address after a vehicle had items stolen from inside. The suspect, Daniel Michael Arnold, was later seen trying to enter a nearby vehicle by a neighbor, who confronted Arnold and called 911.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies, with the help of the probation department, was able to track Arnold's movements with GPS software, and determined he was in the area at the time of the break-ins.

Arnold, who was on supervised probation, was required to wear the monitoring ankle bracelet due to a previous conviction for auto theft.

Deputies tracked Arnold down in San Bernardino, where he was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Facility on charges of petty theft with a prior conviction and for a probation violation.

Arnold is being held without bail due to the probation violation, and is due in court Thursday for the petty theft charge, and Friday for the probation violation.
