Rain Causes Havoc and More is on the Way

Rain may have caused a big rig to plummet off a freeway transition. And more rain is in the forecast.

The Inland Valley continues under a Special Weather Statement as another storm that promises to be even colder than the previous one moves in over the area.

The storm is expected to reach us by Monday, according to National Weather Service officials.

“The timing of the storm will be similar to today’s storm, with precipitation beginning early in the morning on Monday across Orange and San Bernardino counties then spreading east into Riverside and San Diego counties through midday,” according to a statement issued by weather officials.

Rain has already wreaked havoc on the roadways. About 5 a.m. Saturday, a big rig skidded on a rain slicked road and plummeted over the side of the southbound Interstate 215 connector at westbound Interstate 10, according to Caltrans officials.

The rig did not strike other vehicles, but it forced the closure of all but one lane of westbound I-10. Caltrans crews cleaned up 150 gallons of fuel that spilled onto the highway. The driver survived.

"Normally we don't see someone walk away from something like this," Caltrans spokeswoman Terri Kasinga told KTLA 5 News. "He's just extremely lucky and he's very lucky that he didn't land on any other vehicles."

Loma Linda and its neighbors are expected to start with a cold Sunday. Weather service officials predicted it would be mostly sunny, with a high near 64 degrees. An east wind of around 5 miles per hour is expected to become calm.

Sunday brings a 60 percent of showers after 4 a.m. Officials expect it will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 44 degrees.
