Update 5:38 p.m. Welding was the cause of a fire Tuesday that scorched about one acre of vegetation near Alta Vista Drive and Florida Street in the east Redlands hills above Interstate 10, a battalion chief said.
There were no injuries, and it was the second Redlands-area fire in less than a week caused by welding, Redlands Fire Battalion Chief David Graves said in a phone interview.
On , welding work on an unused motor home caused a fire near Live Oak Canyon Road in San Timoteo Canyon, according to Graves and other Redlands Fire officials.
During Tuesday's fire near Alta Vista, Redlands Fire crews were joined by a Cal Fire crew from Yucaipa and San Bernardino County crews from Mentone and Grand Terrace, Graves said.
Posted 4:28 p.m. Redlands firefighters knocked down a one-acre vegetation fire Tuesday afternoon near Alta Vista Drive and Florida Street in the east Redlands hills above Interstate 10.
The fire was reported just before 3:40 p.m. behind the water tower near Alta Vista and Florida, according to Redlands fire officials.
Firefighters stopped progress of the fire just after 4 p.m., Redlands Fire Chief Jeff Frazier said. Crews were expected to remain on scene one to two hours for mop-up.
No injuries were reported, and there was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
