A Redlands resident was fatally injured Friday night when a Mustang crashed into a tree on Citrus Avenue in Mentone, according to the coroner.
The single-vehicle crash was reported at 9:05 p.m. July 12 on Citrus east of Opal Avenue, coroner's personnel said in a statement Saturday morning.
When law enforcement and firefighters arrived they found the driver, the sole occupant of the Mustang, was westbound on Citrus "at a high rate of speed" when the car crashed into a tree, coroner's personnel said.
The driver, identified as a 19 year-old male resident of Redlands, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The California Highway Patrol was investigating the crash.
