Robber Beats Woman With Crowbar

A robber beat his female victim over the head with a crowbar, then flees with her purse.

Highland Police are searching for two men who robbed a woman of her purse, using a crowbar as a weapon.

Police, who also patrol Loma Linda, said the woman was walking south on Del Rosa Avenue, between Baseline and Ninth streets, when a black SUV heading north pulled up next to her and turned off its lights, according to a Sheriff’s news release.

A Hispanic man in the front passenger seat stepped out of the car with a crowbar and demanded the victim’s purse. When the woman attempted to take the purse off her shoulder, the robber screamed at a second person in the vehicle to shoot her, officials said.

The second man, also described as Hispanic, reportedly got out of the SUV from the driver’s seat, but did not approach the victim, police said. But the first attacker began to hit the victim in the head with the crowbar, investigators said.

The assailant took her purse. Both men got into the SUV, made a U-turn and fled. The woman was taken to a hospital with head injuries, officials said.

Police describe one of the robbers as being in his early 20's. He is 5-foot-4 with a thin build. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head.

The second man is described as being in his early 20's, about 5-foot-9 with a medium build. He was wearing all dark clothing.

The suspect vehicle is a late model black or dark color SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Highland Station at (909) 425-9793
