Robbery Suspects with Rifle, Handgun Shoot Clerk at Highland One Stop Store

The robbery occurred at 6:50 p.m. Oct. 25 at Base Line and Central Avenue, Highland Station deputies said.

Three suspects, one with a rifle and scope and one with a handgun, tried to pull an armed robbery and shot a store clerk Thursday in Highland, according to the Sheriff's Department.

The robbery occurred at 6:50 p.m. Oct. 25 at the One Stop Food Store at Base Line and Central Avenue, Highland Station deputies said. The clerk in the store at the time was a man.

"The three suspects ran into the One Stop Food Store and assaulted the clerk who was behind the counter at the cash register," deputies said in a statement. "The first suspect ran into the store armed with the rifle and pointed it at the victim who pushed the rifle away and struggled briefly with the suspect.

"The second suspect ran into the store with a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him in the back," deputies said. "The third suspect ran into the store just as the two armed suspects were running out."

All three suspects ran north and got into an older, dark colored mini van, possibly a Chevy Lumina, deputies said. The vehicle had small Dayton-style rims and tires.
