Seeking Recruits: Sheriff's Department Touts Women Warriors Fitness Invitational

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is seeking fit, athletic women who aspire to working in law enforcement to take part in a first-time Women Warriors event.

The invitational event is scheduled July 20 at the Department Academy, 18000 Institution Road in San Bernardino.

Here's the Sheriff's Department announcement verbatim:

Active, fitness-minded women who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement are invited to the inaugural Women Warriors Fitness Invitational being hosted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

The event was organized to give athletic women a chance to practice on the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department physical agility course and see if they have what it takes to become a deputy sheriff. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet recruiters and speak to women on the department from the ranks of captain to deputy.

The fitness challenge will consist of a "pursuit and rescue" obstacle course, push ups, sit ups and a 1.5 mile run. Guest speakers from the sheriff’s department will give a brief presentation at the beginning of the event.

Part of the hiring process for all applicants – not just women – is a physical agility course that includes a 6-foot wall, 6-foot chain-link fence and a dummy drag. This event will allow women interested in a career with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department an opportunity to assess their skills prior to application with the department.

This event is open to all women, age 21 and older. Participants must present a valid form of identification and sign a waiver at check in. Appropriate fitness attire and running shoes are required. Only participants will be allowed on premises: no spectators, men or children will be permitted.
