SHARP FIRE UPDATE: Evac Orders Lifted for Residents Near Wrightwood Blaze

Update 2:55 p.m. All evacuations for the Sharp Fire southeast of Wrightwood were lifted at noon Sunday, according to the Forest Service.

"Incident Command has based its decision on the effectiveness of containment lines and decreased fire activity," Forest Service officials said in an update.

"While the fire behavior on the north slope has been decreasing over the past two days, evacuations were held due to the threat of rollout. Rollout is the term for burning materials that fall down slope with the potential of crossing containment lines and carrying fire into unburned areas, in this case the southeastern neighborhoods in Wrightwood."

The neighborhood south of Lone Pine Canyon Road and east of Sheep Creek Wash previously under mandatory evacuation was opened to residents with proper identification.

The neighborhood south of Lone Pine Canyon Road west of the Sheep Creek Wash and east of Heath Creek Road previously under voluntary evacuation was opened without restriction.

Lone Pine Canyon Road was to remain closed between Highway 138 and Sheep Creek Road until 6 p.m. Aug. 11.

The Sharp Fire broke out shortly after noon Aug. 8 in heavy timber southeast of Wrightwood in the Angeles National Forest. The cause remained under investigation, according to the Forest Service.
