Sheriff's Prepare to Release Prisoners into Communities

More than 100 will be released from San Bernardino County jails in the next few days.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s announced they will release about 150 inmates from the county jail starting tomorrow in accordance AB109 and AB 117, or the state prisoner realignment.

Governor Jerry Brown signed the legislation in an attempt “to close the revolving door of low-level inmates cycling in and out of state prisons,” according to the California Department of Corrections. The bills aims to cut the number of inmates in the state’s 33 prison to 137.5 percent of design capacity by June 27, 2013, as ordered by the three-judge court and affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court.

San Bernardino County correctional officials, the process of releasing prisoners will run through Dec. 14. Loma Linda Patch will provide more details on the bills in a story for tomorrow.
