Specialized Enforcement Deputies Shoot, Kill Armed Robbery Suspect

The unidentified man was suspected of armed robberies in Highland, San Bernardino, and Redlands, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Specialized Enforcement deputies shot and fatally wounded a man who was suspected of multiple armed robberies in Highland, San Bernardino, and Redlands, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department announced just before 5 p.m. Friday.

Detectives received info Thursday that the suspect was at the Days Inn on Highland Avenue in the city of San Bernardino, a Sheriff's Department news release stated.

"The suspect was known to be violent, as well as armed and dangerous," deputies said.

About 10 p.m. Nov. 29, Specialized Enforcement deputies set up surveillance of the Days Inn, according to the Sheriff's Department.

At 9:26 a.m. Friday Nov. 30, Specialized Enforcement deputies observed the suspect come out of a room at the Days Inn.

"Based on the suspect's actions, an officer involved shooting occurred," deputies said in the statement. "The suspect was found to be in possession of a handgun."

The suspect was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:49 a.m. Nov. 30, deputies said.

Sheriff's Homicide personnel responded to conduct an investigation.

The deceased man's name, age and hometown were not released. Specifics about the multiple armed robberies the man was suspected of in Highland, San Bernardino and Redlands were also not released.
