Sheriff's Department Investigating Yucaipa Bus Crash

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says the crash happened earlier this week, and they are looking for anyone who may have witnessed it.

San Bernardino County sheriff's officials are looking for witnesses to a Yucaipa bus crash that left a local 22-year-old hospitalized with major injuries.

The crash happened on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the intersection of 5th Street and Yucaipa Boulevard, according to a sheriff's report.

22-year-old Benjamin Salazar of Yucaipa was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle in the area, when he slammed into an approaching bus, reports indicate.

"The bus was traveling south on 5th Street and was making a left turn to travel east on Yucaipa Boulevard," sheriff's reports state.  "The motorcycle was traveling north on 5th Street and struck the right side of the bus in the intersection."

Salazar's injuries were described as "major" and he was taken to a local hospital to be treated.

"The collision is being investigated by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team," reports said on Friday.  "Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact Deputy M. Hubbard."

The Yucaipa sheriff's station can be reached at 909-790-3105 or 909-473-2619.
