Showdown in the Desert: Republican Bono Mack vs Democrat Ruiz Debate

The contentious debate was billed as the only one between the candidates seeking to represent the 36th Congressional District. It took place Friday night in Palm Desert.

Incumbent Rep. Mary Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, and physician Raul Ruiz, D-Coachella, who want to represent the San Gorgonio Pass and the rest of the new 36th Congressional District, squared off Friday night in a debate in Palm Desert.

The one-hour debate was billed as the only one between the two candidates before voters go to the polls on Nov. 6.

Uninterrupted video of the contentious debate is attached to this report. The debate was aired live from a closed studio setting with no audience present.

Organizers of the debate were KMIR6, the NBC affiliate for the Coachella Valley, and the Desert Sun.

The 36th Congressional District includes Calimesa, Cherry Valley, Beaumont, Banning, Cabazon and Whitewater. A pdf copy of the new district is attached to this report.
