The four-hour seminar is scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27 at the Redlands Community Center gymnasium. The cost is $10 and fees collected will be applied to the police department's Street Smart Self-Defense program.

Space is still available for girls and women to take part in the Redlands Police Department's upcoming personal self-defense and safety seminar, a city spokesman said Thursday.

The four-hour seminar is scheduled 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 27 at the Redlands Community Center gymnasium. The cost is $10.

The seminar is designed especially for girls ages 13 and up and women, Redlands spokesman Carl Baker said.

Space is limited to the first 50 girls and women registered.

The seminar includes a personal safety presentation and hands-on training, Baker said. The purpose is to raise the level of awareness among girls and women to minimize their risk of being victimized.

The class is taught by members of the Redlands Police Department.

"Participants should bring a light lunch and water and wear loose clothing and comfortable tennis shoes," Baker said.

Seminar fees support the Street Smart Self-Defense program for children and teens, which is also taught by Redlands police officers, Baker said.

Street Smart is designed for ages 6 and up. Classes are held at 3:45 p.m. on Fridays at the Redlands Community Center. For more info about Street Smart visit www.Facebook.com/streetsmartselfdefense1.

Redlands Community Center is located at 111 W. Lugonia Ave.
