Stolen Truck Strikes Redlands Patrol Car, One Officer Treated

A vehicle burglar jumped out of the stolen truck moments before it struck a responding Redlands Police car.

A burglary suspect, who jumped from a moving vehicle and let it roll into a Redlands Police car, is being sought.

The incident began at 3:45 a.m. with a report of a man breaking into vehicles in the 600 block of Bradbury Drive. An officer responded and spotted a Chevrolet S-10 driving on Crestview Road. Then both burglar and officer spotted each other as the official passed, investigators said.

“Before the officer could turn around, the driver jumped from the moving vehicle and fled on foot,” said Carl Baker, public information officer for Redlands Police.

The pickup continued to roll on Crestview toward Ford Street where it struck an arriving police unit at the intersection, officials said.

The burglar has not been found. But officers recovered stolen property in the truck, officials said. The truck itself had been reported stolen out of Grand Terrace. Police confirmed at least two vehicles in the area had been broken into.
