Suspects Try To Flee on Motorcycle Stolen From Loma Linda, Sheriff's Say

Deputies arrest two San Bernardino men who deputies said were riding on a stolen bicycle.

Two men who deputies say tried to speed away from them on a stolen motorcycle were arrested Sunday.

Andrew Ortiz, 29, and Arthur Barrera, 23, both of San Bernardino, were taken into custody just after 8:20 p.m.

Deputy Shadia Adham spotted the duo in the area of Tippecanoe Avenue and Brier Road reportedly riding a 2004 Honda motorcycle that had been reported stolen on Feb. 15 from Taylor Street in Loma Linda.

Adham called for back up and tried to pull the bike over, but Ortiz, the driver, fled northbound on Tippecanoe, officials said. Deputies and the Sheriff’s helicopter 40-King gave chase through neighborhoods in the area of Second and Mill streets and Lena Road, officials said.

Ortiz reportedly ran lights and stop signs at speeds of up to 60 miles and hour. The chase ended in the 800 block of Santa Fe Street where the suspects dumped the motorcycle in a field and ran, sheriff’s officials said.

The two were quickly found near a home by the field, officials said.
